What is the BROWNELLS - WATER DISPLACING OIL "AFTER-BLUING" RUST PREVENTION?

The real professional - and longtime favorite - "after-bluing", one-step oil and protection treatment. Specially formulated; the molecules of oil actually displace the molecules of water still on the surface of the gun as it comes out of the final hot water rinse. Gives the gun a completely protected surface, ensuring your time spent on polishing and bluing will not be spoiled by rust under the oil. Also a superior rust preventive which neutralizes fingerprints, body acids and oils from handling and shooting. Provides a protective film with that proper "oiled and protected" feel preferred by many serious shooters and gun people. The standard by which other "after-bluing" oils are judged.

SPECS: Net contents; 1 qt. (946ml) or 1 gal. (3.8L) in metal can, 5 gal. (19L) in bulk container.

Its true - this stuff is great
Used this oil as a post-cold blue soak and had the best results ever! This would also be an amazing water displacing treatment if your guns end up in high water (e.g. flooded basement or an unexpected swim).

Everything it claims to be
This product is perfect for after-blueing soak. Leave your freshly cleaned or blued parts soaking (or wrapped in a saturated rag) and theyre ready to re-install with a perfect amount of oil on them the next day. This stuff is great.

Works as promised
This oil is better suited for dunking than brushing, but so far I have been brushing it on as I only bought a quart to try out. The viscosity and surface tension seem to be extremely low so if you brush it on, it will immediately run around everywhere and get sucked into all the nooks and crannies in a heartbeat. I haven't seen any runnier oil since I worked in a refinery, those who have been in the oil business will probably recognize the flow characteristics as very similar to thin crude oil (but, of course, without the nasty color). This means that it will spread on and soak into everything it comes in contact with (yeah, that includes your clothes, if you're not careful). In other words, it's perfect for the purpose of fully covering the entire surface of gun parts, including those areas you can't reach. First time I used it, I brushed on a pretty liberal coat and thought I had made a terrible mess that needed to be wiped off thoroughly. Come to find out, the solvent is what makes this stuff so runny, so most of it will actually evaporate afterwhile. It only leaves a very thin, waxy oil film and there is almost no need to wipe off any excess if you let the parts sit for a while. I will probably buy a larger amount next time, and keep in a container so I can dunk the parts and let them soak for a while. I think brushing is more than adequate due to the low viscosity and the excellent capillary capacities, but it will be less messy and much quicker to simply dunk the parts and then let them dry on a towel. In short, this oil is everything it says to be, and I highly recommend it to anyone who blues guns. It should also work well to protect any metal parts that have a totally dry surface and/or have been in contact with water, like after degreasing engine parts or after machining metal parts.
