What is the TIPTON GUN CLEANING SUPPLIES - 17-20 Caliber 26" 5-40F Cleaning Rod?

Carbon fiber is well-suited to the tough tasks assigned to cleaning rods. It combines the best features of stainless steel and coated cleaning rods, then adds valuable properties of its own. Carbon fiber can't scratch your bore like stainless steel, and they won't embed like coated rods. Plus, Carbon Fiber rods can be bent to an extreme degree and return to their original straightness. Feature an ergonomically designed handle that spins on two sets of ball bearings - the result is a cleaning rod that smoothly follows the rifling both pushing and pulling, even while under pressure. The "shank-through" construction also allows the user to apply "reasonable" hammer blows to the end of the cleaning rod to get a tight patch through a bore.


Specs: 45 caliber is 8x32 tpi RH female. 17 caliber is 5x40 tpi female. 22-26 caliber is 8x32 tpi male

More cost than others, but I wouldn't go back to the cheaper rods as the easy rotation of the handle makes it a lot nicer. Quality item in all respects.

"Best there is..."
I am a gunsmith and competitive shooter, (Garand, M1), Fort Benning, GA. These are the very best cleaning rods I have ever used or seen. After making many of my own cleaning rods, using carbon fiber fishing rod blanks, re-purposed, shortened and turned down to accept threaded ends, the Tipton cleaning rod takes it a step further by using ball bearings in the handle to allow free rotation. There is NO drag. I have Tipton cleaning rods for all calibers, .17HMR up to and including .50BMG, They are the VERY BEST.

My favorite cleaning rod.
This is not the only carbon fiber rod out there, but what makes this one my favorite is the handle. I have several others made by well-known manufacturers and, for me, their handles are either too short, too skinny, too smooth (or a combination of those three things) making them difficult to grip--especially if you have any solvent and/or sweat on your hands. The Tipton, handle's combination of size, texture, and contour makes it easy to maintain a grip, whether pushing or pulling. My other rods--many of which were more expensive that the Tipton--can be had cheap in my next garage sale!

They work great for me
I have several of these rods in different sizes and lengths. One for my handguns, one for my rimfire rifles and one for my other rifles. They have worked well. I like how the rod twists with the rifling keeping the attachments from unscrewing. The only con is that it does not collapse down for storage, but that would defeat the purpose of this one piece cleaning rod.

Works well
This rod works well for cleaning my rimfire rifles. I like how the rod spins with the rifling keeping the attachments from unscrewing. I also like that the rod is carbon fiber and thus will be damaged its self before the rifling is.
