What is the BROWNELLS - SMALL RING MAUSER RIFLE ACTION WRENCH & HEAD?
The only commercially available action wrench system that surrounds and supports the receiver ring and recoil lug to distribute potentially damaging torque forces equally. The solid steel base has a unique, machined relief to clear the recoil lug on most Mauser-type bolt action rifles and, the individual, bolt-on Heads are machined to provide an exact fit around and against the receiver ring or barrel nut for each of the firearm models listed. Together, they support the receiver in a ring of steel and greatly increase the amount of surface gripping area to totally eliminate twisted bolt “ways” or damaged, ruined receivers. This is the most advanced, complete, professional-quality, Action Wrench System. With it, you can prevent expensive receiver damage on MOST popular rifle actions, including military models, plus, models for selected handguns. Maximum support for lug and receiver ring of these relatively soft receivers that twist and crush so easily. Fits most military and commercial models.

Thumbs Up!
I used this wrench to remove a 1916 Spanish short-ring Mauser action from its decrepit, deeply pitted 7x57mm-chambered barrel. First, I applied Kroil to the barrel shank/receiver ring interface and let the stripped barreled action sit for 48 hours. Then, I wrapped the front of the receiver in six layers of blue painters tape before attaching this wrench - carefully, evenly, and as tightly as humanly possible - and hossin the garbage barrel tightly in my bench vise. I then smacked the daylights outta the wrench handle with a 4-lb. hammer. Despite the age and questionable strength of the old Spanish action, it spun free without issue in three solid whacks. This wrench is flawlessly contoured; with the painters tape for added protection, it left no marks whatsoever on my receiver (which is now ready for truing, rebarreling, refinishing, and another 100+ years of shooting).
